My heart brakes when I think of the troubles and loss of life in Syria. I wish I could do something to help those people. In a heart felt way I can only hope they know I care. One of the ways I can let them know I care is not supporting the act of my country, the United States of America, dropping bombs on their homeland, as troubled as it is. The USA going to war with Syria is a horrible idea and should be avoided. I plead with Senator Alexander, Senator Corker, Representative Jim Cooper, and President Obama to say no to our doing so. The last thing this region needs is more conflict. Positive caring diplomacy is more urgent then all of our weapons. We need to reach out to these people with love, not bombs.
As an active constituent to my current and past presidents and representatives in congress I have been very disappointed in the past when it comes to swaying them to say no to our going into war. Can our hearts grow tired, hopeless and weary as we grow in times of trouble and give up, or can we speak up and hold true to a better way? I want to answer that with acknowledging the hopeless feeling, but I can’t give up. I am writing to let you know that I oppose a military attack on Syria. Creative diplomacy is the best way to respond to the alleged use of chemical weapons. I urge my president and reps to work for a cease fire, to pressure Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states, and Turkey, to halt the flow of weapons, and to pressure Russia and Iran to do the same. And I hope others join in on this hopeful loving dialog.
