To the editor:
This being Easter time and with Hollywood commenting in film usually in error, I think it good to comment on three aspects of Easter:
Who did Christ look like? Judas Iscariot gives the answer: “From Matthew 26:48-49, “Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail Master; and kissed him.”
Conclusion: Christ did not stand out in a crowd. He looked like any ordinary Jew. He looked so ordinary that Judas would have to get up close and very personal so the captors would know they would capture the right person The pictures some now use that suggests Christ’s looks will only hold if all other male Jews looked almost the same.
Judas got so close to Christ. A kiss is the closest and that may be the reason Judas choose it. A warning to us: Physical closeness to Christianity gets no one close to God. There must be a spiritual new birth.
I propose that Christ was crucified on Wednesday afternoon though good folks can differ and I will still be your Christian friend. We must have three days and three nights: All of the days that Christ was in the heart of the earth were Sabbath days in that week of the crucifixion:
Wednesday afternoon Christ cried out, “It is finished” meaning He provided the finished work of salvation…very important.
The Sabbaths: Wednesday 6:00 PM – Thursday 6:00 PM the Passover
Thursday 6:00 PM – Friday 6:00 PM Feast of First Fruits
Friday 6:00 PM – Saturday 6:00 PM regular Sabbath
Thus, Sabbaths mean that we don’t work. Likewise, salvations means, “for by grace are ye saved through faith, not of works, lest any man should boast.
