scaTo the Editor:
Dan Alonso, in his letter in last week’s Advocate, points out that the deficits run up by the Bush presidents were the results of wars. What he doesn’t mention is that most presidents, when they go to war, raise taxes to pay for those wars. If I want to start a war, or buy a new car, I must find the money to pay for it. Adopting an enormous expense without having the money to pay for it is simply irresponsible budgeting.

That also doesn’t change the fact that Mullah Homer Dodson told an untruth. If he wanted to say that the Republican Party was responsible for the Clinton surplus, he could have. Instead, he implied that the Clinton surplus was a deficit. That is simply not true. Mullah Homer told an untruth. Mr. Alonso is free to call it what he likes, but it was an untruth.

And if Mullah Homer dislikes the name I have given him, he can speak up, and state clearly that he is opposed to theocracy in America and elsewhere. He has so far declined to do so. He has so far declined to correct, or apologize for, any of the lies in which he has been caught. I therefore suspect that he does not consider them to be immoral or against his religious beliefs. And I ask Mr. Alonso, too, between Jesus and Satan, which one considers lying acceptable? From my readings in the New Testament, it isn’t Jesus.
